BIG MOOD: NICOLA COUGHLAN AND LYDIA WEST RETURN FOR SECOND SERIES OF HIT CHANNEL 4 COMEDY

Written and created by Camilla Whitehill and produced by Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions (The Responder, The Salisbury Poisonings), Big Mood will be returning to Channel 4 for a second outing.

Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls) will return as Maggie and Lydia West (It’s A Sin, Inside Man) will return as Eddie, following a hugely successful first series that was Channel 4 streaming’s highest new comedy launch since Derry Girls.

It’s been a year since Maggie and Eddie last saw each other, without any contact between the best friends. When Eddie suddenly returns for a wedding, she isn’t alone - Maggie has competition, in the form of an infuriatingly positive spiritual healer named Whitney. Can Maggie and her special brand of chaos find space in Eddie’s new life? Or will Maggie lose Eddie forever?

Camilla Whitehill, writer and creator, says: “I had no plan B and zero transferable skills so I am overjoyed to be bringing Big Mood back for another round! Discovering that there are actually loads of weirdos who like the same weirdo stuff as me has been a real privilege...

"My eternal love and gratitude go to everyone at Channel 4, Dancing Ledge and Fremantle for their fierce support and hard work. My ongoing blackmail campaign against Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West continues in earnest. They’ll never escape me.”

Nicola Coughlan says: “Deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show. It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story. Rats at the ready.”

Lydia West says: “So excited to reunite with my besties and work on series 2! I can’t wait to see the scripts and get back to the world of Eggie!”

Charlie Perkins, Head of Comedy, Channel 4 says: “People really took to this zeitgeisty Buddy-Comedy with excellent central performances from Nicola and Lydia. Coupled with the heart and passion of all those involved in Big Mood, we’re excited to see how Camilla captures everything that people loved about the first series and beyond in series two.”

Laurence Bowen, CEO of Dancing Ledge Productions and executive producer, says: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Big Mood has been recommissioned by the wonderful Channel 4. The success of series one is a testament to Camilla’s exceptional writing and the brilliant central performances from Nicola and Lydia, whose chemistry brought the perfect balance of heart, humour, energy and authenticity to the show. It’s been fantastic to see how audiences have embraced the show across the world, and we’re excited to build on that in series two.”

Big Mood is written and created by Camilla Whitehill and will be directed by Rebecca Asher who returns for this series. Lotte Beasley Mestriner also returns to executive produce series two, along with executive producers Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions.

Dancing Ledge Productions are a Fremantle company. Fremantle is handling global sales for the series. Transmission details will be released in due course.

Series 1 of Big Mood is currently available to stream on Channel 4 in the UK and on Tubi in the US and Canada.
