GAVIN & STACEY: FIRST LOOK AND TIMESLOT CONFIRMED FOR FINAL SPECIAL ON BBC ONE
With filming completed on the final ever special of Gavin & Stacey, an official synopsis has been released for the special, which will be feature-length at 90 minutes.
The much anticipated episode is the first in five years, with the 2019 special becoming the biggest single episode of any comedy programme - across all channels - since records began, with a consolidated audience of over 18m.
It’s five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened since then.
In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen year marriage and Gwen is behaving most strangely. Nessa’s started a new business venture and Neil the Baby’s about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad.
Over in Billericay Pam is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship.
Join us on the journey to Barry and Billericay as we catch up with the Shipmans and the Wests for the very last time and maybe find out what exactly did happen on that fishing trip.
This year's special will see all the main cast reunite one final time. Matthew Horne (Gavin), Joanna Page (Stacey), Ruth Jones (Nessa), James Corden (Smithy), Melanie Walter (Gwen), Larry Lamb (Mick), Alison Steadman (Pam) and Rob Brydon (Bryn) will all reprise their roles.
Also confirmed is a new one-hour documentary, also set to air on BBC One, which follows the cast and crew as they film the final ever episode of the hit BBC comedy, as well as reflecting on some of the best bits from previous series.
A source previously told The Sun: "The Beeb view this as a momentous occasion and wanted to give Gavin & Stacey a suitably auspicious send-off. The fact that the documentary will be made by Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by James and is a co-producer of the sitcom, means they’ll enjoy full access on set and get all the biggest chats."
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale (1 x 90) airs Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One.
