GENERAL ELECTION 2024 ACROSS BBC, ITV, CHANNEL 4, SKY AND GB NEWS

Here's a rundown of the main broadcasters' coverage plans for next week's General Election.

BBC

Laura Kuenssberg and Clive Myrie, along with BBC political editor Chris Mason, will head an array of BBC expert talent to host the general election night TV coverage on BBC network news. They will be joined in the BBC’s London studio by Reeta Chakrabarti, who will be analysing the results as they come in.

Jeremy Vine – and the famous swingometer – will be broadcasting from Cardiff, Kirsty Wark from Glasgow, and Andrea Catherwood from Belfast. Professor Sir John Curtice, the ‘expert’s expert’ will be with Laura, Clive, Chris and Reeta to offer his vast psephological knowledge and insights.

Fiona Bruce, Victoria Derbyshire, Naga Munchetty, Nick Watt, and Alex Forsyth will be among the well-known BBC faces reporting from key locations around the country.

Sophie Raworth and Jon Kay will take the helm on Friday morning, with deputy political editor Vicki Young alongside them as the shape of the country’s new political map becomes clearer. Christian Fraser will be using graphics to build up a full picture of the new House of Commons. Nicky Campbell will anchor extended coverage from Glasgow.

ITV

Tom Bradby will be joined in the studio throughout the night by an unrivalled team of political insider guests including George Osborne, Ed Balls and Nicola Sturgeon for Election 2024 Live: The Results airing on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.  

Also on hand will be ITV News' Robert Peston, Anushka Asthana and Paul Brand plus ITV's leading election analysts Professor Jane Green and Professor Colin Rallings. 

ITV News reporters will be on the ground right around the UK throughout bringing news from every corner of the country. At 6am Good Morning Britain will come on air with Susanna Reid and Ed Balls co-anchoring, with the latter leaving the overnight coverage to join GMB. 

ITV will remain on air from 9.25am with Julie Etchingham leading the coverage. Will Rishi Sunak stay in Number 10 or will Keir Starmer arrive for the first time? Who will be moving into ministerial offices? Dramatic political questions are likely to be answered during the live coverage on Day 2.

SKY

Chief Presenter Kay Burley will anchor Election Night Live, the overnight results programme, from a 360-degree immersive studio normally used by Sky Sports shows like Monday Night Football.

Kay, who will be covering her 12th UK General Election, will be joined by award-winning Political Editor Beth Rigby, Sunday show presenter Sir Trevor Phillips, and data and economics editor Ed Conway.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, and former Labour MP, Andy Burnham will join former MSP and Leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Baroness Ruth Davidson, to provide guest analysis. Professor Michael Thrasher will lead Sky News psephology team, as he has at every election since 1989. 

From 7am the following day, Lead Politics Presenter Sophy Ridge, host of Sky’s Politics Hub, will be live from Westminster bringing viewers every development as the election result is absorbed and plans for the next government are made. Sophy will be joined by Deputy Political Editor Sam Coates and Sky News contributor Adam Boulton across what will be a historic day, as the nation awaits the next Prime Minister.

Audiences will be able to find out what’s really happening, first, with Sky News reporters and cameras at election counts up and down the UK revealing the dramatic results and hearing from candidates from across the political spectrum.

CHANNEL 4

The show will be fronted by Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Emily Maitlis and include The Rest is Politics podcast hosts Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart who’ll be on air throughout the night with their unique brand of analysis, steering viewers through what many are predicting to be a game-changing moment in British politics.

Channel 4 has extended its Election Night programme and finalised the presenting team. Britain Decides with The Rest Is Politics and Gogglebox will begin at 9.45pm on 4th July and follow the results of the ballot until 9am the following morning, making it the longest continuous programme on Election Night.

C4 News’ Political Editor Gary Gibbon will be on hand throughout for his first class analysis. And a team of reporters will be at key counts across the country capturing the moments of drama as the results are declared.

Going beyond Westminster, and in unique Channel 4 style, the coverage will also include exclusively commissioned inserts from Gogglebox favourites, providing their take on the election campaign.

GB NEWS

Camilla Tominey and Stephen Dixon will anchor a special live results programme on GBNews starting at 9.55pm on July 4. They’ll be joined by Patrick Christys and Michelle Dewberry, who will host a GBNews Election Night Watch Party from a club in Essex.

The party will be attended by guests from politics and entertainment as well GBNews’ viewers and members who will give their live reaction as votes start to come in. Political Editor Christopher Hope will dissect every twist and turn, explaining what they mean to our viewers.

Meanwhile, in regions across the UK, GB News’ team of presenters and reporters will broadcast live from polling stations ensuring viewers and listeners get the key results right as they happen.

GBNews presenter and former Labour MP Gloria De Piero will give her reaction as the results come in.

Then, when people wake up on July 5, Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster will take over from 6am to host a very special breakfast show, Vote 2024: The People Decide With Eamonn and Isabel.
