LINE OF DUTY 'SET TO RETURN FOR SEVENTH SERIES' WITH THREE SPECIALS
BBC drama juggernaut Line Of Duty is set to make a sensational return for a brand new series, according to reports from The Sun.
The Sun reports that the series will return for a three-episode miniseries. It's understood the three leads - Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston - are onboard.
Line Of Duty is written and created by Jed Mercurio and made by World Productions for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The sixth series aired in Spring 2021 and climaxed with nearly 13 million viewers.
An insider told The Sun: "There was a very strong feeling, particularly among fans, that there was unfinished business with Line of Duty. Viewers weren’t satisfied with the ending of series six and were crying out for a more sensational conclusion — now Jed can deliver that...
"The question is whether the person we were led to believe was H really is the villain that AC-12 has been hunting or if it was another nemesis. There’s also a theory another, darker puppet-master is at work...
"The fact that they’re looking at taking the unusual step of making three episodes rather than the usual six or seven is a reflection of just how special this is for the show."
The BBC declined to comment when approached.
Line Of Duty is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
