MR BATES VS THE POST OFFICE TO BE AWARDED NTA IMPACT AWARD

Toby Jones, Monica Dolan and fellow star cast members, together with the real-life Subpostmasters featured in the agenda-setting drama, will be invited on stage to receive the prestigious Impact Award on behalf of Mr Bates vs The Post Office at next week’s National Television Awards.

Mr Bates vs the Post Office, the four-part series which aired earlier this year on ITV1 and ITVX, tells the extraordinary story of the greatest miscarriage of justice in British legal history and was an inspiring reminder that Television can truly transform lives.

Commenting on the award, NTA host Joel Dommett said:  “It's not often that a drama comes along and creates a huge cultural shift. The fact that Mr. Bates Vs The Post office got politicians talking and changed legislation is huge.  It’s a reminder of the power of television. Every now and then a programme comes along and reminds you how important it is that these shows exist.”

The NTAs honour television’s best-loved shows and stars in the only TV awards ceremony where the winners are chosen exclusively by viewers – and the national vote results are revealed LIVE on the night.
