Christmas Cruising with Susan Calman | Preview (Channel 5)

Susan is getting into the Christmas spirit on a festive cruise in Germany, along the Main and Rhine rivers, travelling through the country that invented Christmas markets, gingerbread houses and has a day in December dedicated to St Nicholas himself. It’s a cruise where every stop promises a picture-perfect scene from a Christmas card.

Susan's yuletide adventure begins in Nuremberg where she visits the traditional Christmas village, makes her Christmas wish (no telling!) on the gold rings at the city’s 14th century fountain and takes to the skies on a festive Ferris wheel.

From Nuremberg she sails to Bamberg and it's cheers all round for Susan and her cruise pals with a traditional Christmas flavoured smoked German Beer – a new one on her! Next stop on her festive cruise is the fairytale town of Rothenburg. The town boasts a Christmas Museum and year-round Christmas Shop.

The perfect place to learn about German Christmas traditions and pick up some yuletide tips to take home. And she can’t leave without buying her own Christmas Nutcracker! A firm favourite in everyone’s home at Christmas, it will take pride of place on her mantlepiece!

Meanwhile, onboard, Susan joins other cruise guests for a gingerbread house decorating competition – no cheating allowed! The cruise continues onto medieval Miltenberg, Germany's prettiest town and oozing Christmas charm.

Susan reveals a hidden talent when she plays the town’s 17th century church organ, joining in a rousing rendition of Christmas favourite The First Noel. There’s more music onboard as she takes part in a festive sing-along with all her cruising friends.

Susan’s final destination is Cologne where she visits not one, not two, but three Christmas markets, chats to Angels and encounters a Snow Queen! All of her Christmas wishes have come at once! Merry Cruise-mas to one and all.
