From an unforgettable river cruise down the Ganges in India to island hopping in the Caribbean, Susan shares all the excitement of this truly unique way to travel. There’s also the jaw-dropping landscape of Norway; a picture perfect Mediterranean jaunt to Greece and Turkey and a truly epic sailing down under that takes in the very best of Australia and New Zealand. Truly Cruises of a lifetime!
In the first episode, Susan kicks off her first cruise of a lifetime with a an awe-inspiring cruise down on of the most famous rivers in the world – the Ganges, but she’s got to get there first !
So, she embarks on a magical journey organised by the cruise line through one of the world’s most vibrant countries – India. In the first of this two-part special, Susan is on an epic trip that will see her visiting three iconic cities in just five days by plane, taxi and rickshaw… before she even reaches Kalkata port, and boards her ship!
Susan is determined to cram in as much as she can as she winds her way through this amazing country en route to the port, along with her fellow cruise passengers. She starts in Old Delhi, with a rickshaw ride through Chadni Chowk market where the sights, sounds and noise are a real sensory overload for any traveller.
But there’s no time to catch her breath, as Susan soon heads to Agra to see one of the most sacred and celebrated sites on the planet – The Taj Mahal. As the sun rises, she shares a magical moment with some fellow cruisers in the shadow of this iconic building.
Also in Agra, Susan decides to embrace everything India has to offer and explores a local food market with guide Ashish … and discovers the real meaning of spicy food!
In Jaipur Susan heads to the Amer Fort, a vast hilltop palace complex that surrounds a series of grand and beautifully decorated courtyards. And the crafts skills of the Rajasthan region are also celebrated, as Susan visits a hand block printing and textile factory and chats to the ladies about their incredible needlework skills, passed down through generations.
Finally, Susan arrives in style at her ship in one of Kolkata’s iconic yellow Ambassador taxis. She steps onboard to start the next leg of her Indian adventure – a river cruise up the Ganges that will take her off the beaten track to explore the undiscovered gems of this magical country.
