Hotel Portofino | Series 2 Preview (U&Drama)
A heady, period drama about a British family who establish a hotel for upper class travellers on the magical Italian Riviera during the ‘Roaring 20s’ as they try to escape the traumatic aftermath of World War 1, starring Natascha McElhone and Mark Umbers.
It is the summer of 1927… and Bella Ainsworth is still devoting her considerable energies to the Hotel Portofino, which has overcome its early teething troubles and is starting to prosper.
To Bella’s relief, her no-good husband, Cecil, hasn’t been seen since returning to England at the end of the previous summer. More regrettably, her son Lucian has also been absent, having set up home in London with his new bride, Rose.
In the first episode, Lucian arrives back at the Hotel for a holiday without Rose and is reminded of his suppressed feelings for Constance, while being forced to admit to a worried Bella that his marriage isn’t working.
Betty is up-in-arms about the building works in the basement, which have encountered problems. To add to Bella’s woes, the Hotel may be facing an anonymous inspection from an influential travel guide, while she must deal with an unexpected and unwelcome return from someone closer to home.
Hotel Portofino returns Friday 8th November at 9pm on U&Drama.
