Jack The Ripper: Written In Blood is a gripping new drama-documentary on Sky HISTORY that explores the infamous Whitechapel murders of 1888 from an entirely new angle: how a team of reporters from Whitechapel’s The Star newspaper created and fuelled the legend of Jack The Ripper and in so doing, contributed to a serial killer evading justice.

Across three compelling hours, the new series dives deep into this real-life thriller, exposing how journalist Fred Best (Mark Strepan) and his colleagues at The Star, including its cunning editor TP O’ Conner (Moe Dunford) and his wily assistant, Ernest Parke (Tyger Drew Honey), allegedly misled the police investigation by planting false leads and fabricating evidence, and printing speculation as fact.
With every lurid headline and forged ‘Ripper’ letter, claiming to be from the killer himself, it is widely believed that Fred and his cohorts steered the hunt away from the real murderer and sabotaged Scotland Yard’s investigation.
The Star newspaper whipped up mass hysteria, turning the streets of Whitechapel into a battleground, fuelling mob justice and the violent assaults of innocent men. The city spiralled into panic, with the police chasing shadows while the real killer slipped through their grasp.
In their ruthless pursuit of headlines, Fred and his colleagues at The Star, didn’t just help create the legend of Jack the Ripper, they ensured he would never be caught.
Jack The Ripper: Written in Blood (3x1) premieres 8th April at 9pm on Sky HISTORY.
