As always, the New Year's Eve fireworks topped the week with 10,491,000 for its showing on BBC One. The firework display was sandwiched between Sophie Ellis-Bextor's New Year's Eve Disco, which was watched by 4,460,000 and 4,733,000 for its two parts respectively.
Graham Norton's annual New Year's Eve special of his chatshow was watched by 3,915,000. The Traitors returned to BBC One earlier in the evening with a huge 9,225,000 viewers for its first episode. Episodes 2 and 3 continued strong with 8,544,000 and 8,643,000 respectively.
Earlier on New Year's Day, Gladiators returned with a one-off celebrity special, watched by 5,149,000 and followed by the BBC's fond farewell to Gavin And Stacey which was watched by 6,994,000.
In drama, the return of Call The Midwife on Sunday night topped the week with 7,042,000. ITV aired the final series of Vera to 6,291,000 and 6,190,000 respectively, with 3,119,000 tuning in to ITV's farewell documentary on Friday evening. On Saturday night, ITV aired acquired drama North Shore to 3,105,000.
SAS Rogue Heroes returned for its second series to 5,383,000 on New Year's Day, whilst ITV thriller Playing Nice launched to 5,737,000 on Sunday night. Netflix launched a brand new series from Harlen Coben, Missing You, to 4,521,000 and 3,999,300 for its first two episodes.
ITV launched its weekend entertainment schedule, including the return of The Masked Singer to 4,867,000 and 4,545,000, plus Ant & Dec's Limitless Win to 3,690,000 and 3,401,000.
In soaps, Coronation Street topped the week with 4,604,000 on Monday night, EastEnders with 4,200,000 on New Year's Day, and Emmerdale with 4,138,000 on Thursday evening.
