CHANNEL 5 DOCUMENTARY TO EXPLORE STRICTLY'S SECRETS AND SCANDALS

A 20th anniversary celebration of the most popular global TV franchise of all time – its many highs, its occasional lows, the costumes, the competition – and the controversies.

The one-off traces the history of Strictly, from its roots in a quaint old late night ballroom competition called Come Dancing, via a cult Aussie movie rom-com, to the flagship spectacular it has now become, with international versions becoming huge successes across the world.

Viewers will hear the 'inside secrets' from those who’ve been there: judges, professional dancers and celebrity contestants, as we recall the best, worst, memorable and funniest competitors.

Plus the pioneering new ground it has broken by championing those with disabilities and leading the way on same-sex dancing pairings – and also look at its edgier side – because whatever happens in Strictly, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be front-page news.

From ruined relationships, the ‘curse of Strictly’, to the high levels of stress and pressure in perfecting those routines – and even the recent allegations of bullying, upon which the the BBC were quick to act, putting new measures in place and launching a full investigation – it’s all endlessly fascinating to the media and the viewing public.

Strictly Come Dancing: Secrets, Sex & Scandals (w/t) is coming soon to Channel 5 and My5.
