THE HUNDRED: CRICKET COMPETITION RETURNS TO BBC THIS SUMMER
BBC Sport’s huge summer continues as The Hundred returns, bringing cricket fans, old and new, live games across BBC TV, radio and online this July and August.
Returning for a fourth series and combining sporting action with live music, fans can enjoy the fast-paced format, as Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles fight to retain their position as champions of the women’s and men’s competitions respectively.
Cricket fans across the country can watch 15 games live across BBC TV and iPlayer from 23rd July including the opening women’s and men’s double header and the women’s and men’s finals. Every ball is available to follow across BBC Sport with audio commentary on every game plus video clips and analysis on the BBC Sport Website and App.
Will Jos Buttler and Danni Wyatt be top scorers again for 2024? How will Andrew Flintoff fare in his new role of Head Coach for the Northern Superchargers men’s team? Will anyone beat the record-breaking 118 Tammy Beaumont made last year for Welsh Fire? Tune in to the BBC to find out.
Adam Mountford, Head of Cricket for BBC Sport says: “The Hundred joins the BBC’s stellar summer of sport bringing cricket fans together with fast-paced action and entertainment. The competition is fierce between the teams across the UK and audiences can enjoy all the drama with commentary and expert analysis for the best of British sporting storytelling.”
Isa Guha and Alex Hartley present the action alongside a host of cricketing stars including Sir Alastair Cook, Katherine Sciver-Brunt, Tymal Mills, Heather Knight, Steven Finn, Michael Vaughan, Carlos Brathwaite, Moeen Ali, Phil Tufnell and Jofra Archer.
The BBC’s showcase matches will feature live music performances from hotly tipped rising stars supported by BBC Music Introducing, with Cat Burns kicking things off at the Oval and Zara Larsson headlining the final at Lords on 18 August.
Launched in 2021, The Hundred brings together eight teams from across seven cities, including some of the best international and domestic players from the men’s and women’s game. The teams are: Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers (Leeds), Oval Invincibles (London), Southern Brave (Southampton), Trent Rockets (Nottingham) and Welsh Fire (Cardiff).
England Women’s Captain and London Spirit All Rounder, Heather Knight says: "The Hundred is getting closer and we're really excited. It's such a huge part of the summer now and it's great to see the BBC continue their support. I know lots of fans have enjoyed watching The Hundred on free to access TV across the last few seasons, hopefully we can make this season similarly exciting and see London Spirit go all the way."
